Coffee Shops
Amsterdam and pot, cannabis or weed are like a synonyme.
There are not many countries where it's legal to use cannabis.
In Amsterdam there are
many coffee shops and there is even a cannabismuseum!
There are like a hundred
coffeeshops. The biggest and famoused one is "The Bulldog".
It was one of the first coffeeshops in Amstedam.

Gayfriendly Amsterdam |
|
| |
........................................................................................................................................... |

Amsterdam, “the gay way to Europe”
has, without a doubt, earned the title of the gay
capital of Europe. Amsterdam has a very liberal
attitude towards the gays. Netherlands was the first
nation to offer full marriage rights to gay and
lesbian couples in 2000.In 2001 The Netherlands
became the first country in the world to delete “man
and woman” from the definition of marriage, so also
gay couples can adopt children. The heart of the
city Amsterdam is a sparkling centre of festivities.
Especially during summer, when gays and straights go
together. One of the biggest evens in summer is the
Gay Pride and is usually held the first weekend in
August and features a water parade: gaudy and
fancifully decorated boats, which float down the
canals (“grachten”). Also Queens day (30 April) is
very popular among the gay society. This is the day
that the Dutch celebrate their queens birthday in
the streets and thousands of gays take part in the
festivities, celebrating their own gay Queens day.

Gay Pride |
|
| |
With 250.000 spectators this event is
the third largest in Amsterdam.
Only Queens day (April 30) and the Cultural 'Uitmarkt/Sail'
(end of August) attract more people. Amsterdam Pride
has been the largest gay event in the Netherlands
for ten years. If you want to be a spectator of the
Gay Pride we suggest you find a spot somewhere along
one of the canals. In the past about 80 boats were
participating in the Parade, which means the maximum
capacity of the parade has been reached. |

Queens day |
|
| |
If you’re thinking of making a trip
to Amsterdam, make sure you go when it’s Queen’s
Day. You really won’t forget, or regret it, just
remember to pack something orange! Festivities begin
in Amsterdam the night before. On Queen’s Day the
entire city is out to celebrate - from gay to
straight, from the oldest to the youngest. It’s a
unique atmosphere where traffic is banned from the
streets, so the whole city is dedicated to the
pursuit of happiness. A large video screen at the
Central Station broadcasts the party and the amazing
fireworks to the crowds, but get there early as it
fills up quickly! All over the city you will find
concerts, parties, markets, parades, Dutch flags and
the colour orange.
While you'll no doubt see many gay men and women all
over town, you'll find extra special parties in
areas where the gay bars are concentrated. |

Bars & Clubs |
|
| |
There are three gay areas where 99%
of the gay venues can be found: Warmoesstraat,
Reguliersdwarsstraat (next to Rembrandtplein) and
Kerkstraat. You will find gay-restaurants, -bars,
travelagencies, -saunas, -clubs, -bookstores,
-museums and –fitness clubs. Amsterdam has more than
a hundred gay bars all located in one of the four
districts. Clubs are not as common as bars, but they
do stay open longer. Clubs like Exit, Cockring and X
are very popular and always crowded. |
